Zealous Grooves was born in the capital city of New Mexico and honed their musical prowess in the downtown clubs in Albuquerque, NM. After meeting Drummer Kent and Bassist Adrian, with Shanahan on guitars/vocals, the group quickly started writing the new material which would become the eclectic style of the band.

While the rock influence is recognizable in the sounds of Zealous Grooves, you will hear hints of folk, funk, blues, punk, and a bit of hip hop in their ever growing catalog of music. While the mash up of genres is there, one thing remains the same, the love of the music.

What are your favorite lyrics from your latest single?

There are a few for me. The first is, "There's times when I'm walkin' down the road I think about life and all of its heavy loads. The struggles and the pains, all the losses and the gains." The other is, "I can't waste my time on fools, time gonna heal all my wounds."

Are all your writing sessions collaborative or do you go off on your own? Do you have a preference?

Yes and no. I (Shanahan) wrote most of the songs in the early years but now the guys are comfortable bringing their ideas to the table. Even with the material I wrote, I ask the guys for their input and we never not discuss how songs can be better. A lot of the time we all have ideas separately but collaborate the material together.

Do you ever compare the work you bring to the table?

Definitely, it's great to see the diversity in the work we do and that is what makes the name Zealous Grooves all the more relevant to us.

What is standard practice when it comes to if the song is really finished?

Honestly, I feel a song is never truly finished. That is the great thing about playing the songs live, we can alway add, subtract, and reinvent the songs.

What was the goal for making the latest track?

This single is a very unique situation for us. My nephew wrote the music, the beat, and the cadence and one day he called me to ask if I could put some lyrics to it. I wrote the lyrics, the melody and the subject matter as well as the guitar solo. He gave the song to us and he is credited on the track as a songwriter. A song this great should be heard so we released it.

Challenges to the new music that no one would know about?

It seems that our writing is becoming more elaborate whether we are conscious of it or not. Technique, time signatures and time changes, and structure.

Favorite memory in the making of this music?

With all of our music, it's always learning new processes and learning how much we improve. Also, how tight we get musically when we play a gig after recording day after day.

Is there anything off the table when it comes to bringing yourselves into your music?

Never. We make up the band so we all have a piece of ourselves invested into the art.

Leave us on a high note! And share some good news!

Well, we have a great, new management team called Bsquared and they have all our best interests at heart so we shall be seeing our fans very soon in a venue near you. We also have the new EP on the horizon that has yet to be named so stay tuned and we look forward to rocking with you all very soon. ROCK ON!
