I like to think I’m optimistic, glass half full kind of chick But every time you’re here you have to drink what's left of it I’m so sick of you feeding off me You take and you take then you leave my body You’re such a Vampire Every time you try to care you turn into a Damn liar Suck the fun right out of my veins for No reason why Compel me to forget that you just killed My vibe ‘Cause you’re a, you’re a A vampire I hate to think that you’re obsessive, a kleptomaniac But you stole my heart and all my money to buy your bus pass Out of town where you’ve found your sound look at you now But I’ve seen this before ‘Cause in a month you’ll come undone and be running back begging me for more You’re such a Vampire Every time you try to care you turn into a Damn liar Suck the fun right out of my veins for No reason why Compel me to forget that you just killed My vibe ‘Cause you’re a, you’re a A vampire You’re a narcissistic nightmare haunting me And you stalk me in the daylight selfishly You should give me my life back or get out You should look in the mirror at yourself Oh wait… you can’t You’re such a Vampire (Vampire) Every time you try to care you turn into a Damn liar (A damn liar) Suck the fun right out of my veins for No reason why (No reason why) Compel me to forget that you just killed My vibe (Killed my vibe) ‘Cause you’re a, you’re a A vampire Ohhh You’re such a A vampire
What are your favorite lyrics from your latest single?
"I hate to think that you’re obsessive, a kleptomaniacBut you stole my heart and all my money to buy your bus pass" "You’re a narcissistic nightmare haunting me" "You should look in the mirror at yourself Oh wait… you can’t" - Vampire by Lainey Dionne
What kind of vibe did you feel when making the single?
Angsty! This song is about being over someone's BS- this type of person drains you of all your energy and you're finally calling it for what it is and leaving this emotional vampire in the dust.
Are all your writing sessions collaborative or do you go off on your own? Do you have a preference?
I do both! I happened to write this song with my good friend Hannah Schaefer. I went through a nasty break up and she was down to help me through it by writing with me which has been amazing! My first EP I wrote by myself but my new debut full length album Self Titled I wrote with collaborators except for one song called Cumbria. I enjoy either writing solo or co-writing but I've been co-writing a lot lately because it's nice to have people to vibe off of and hype the song up.
What is standard practice when it comes to if the song is really finished?
Lately, my co-writer and i just look at each other and know "ah this is a smashhh" and we'll go straight to production.
What was the goal for making the latest track?
I wanted to write something I could scream in my car with the windows down and let my frustrations out!
Did you have any challenges with the new music that no one would know about?
Production is expensiveeeee and it's no secret that the pandemic has impacted musicians financially. Other than saving up for this album in the pandemic, I've had LOADS of creativity waiting to come out of me so there haven't been any challenges there. The pandemic is depressing and stressful so I have tons of emotions to work off of there. Now that things have cleared up a bit, and that I have a new love interest in my life- I'm sure some less angsty and happier songs will come out of me!
Favorite memory in the making of Vampire?
The last chorus has what we call "gangs" on it - which is just me in the booth screaming in different character accents to make it sound like a crowd is singing with me. That's always a lot of fun! I belt "Damn Liar" in the last chorus too which I think is the highest note I've belted to date in one of my songs. I also really love the left and right panned "ha ha ha ha" vocal pads in the outro. It was also a lot of fun to go through my family photo albums from the 90's and early 2000's to find my album cover!
Leave us on a high note! And share some good news!
There is another single coming out very soon. If you liked Paramore or A Day To Remember in high school- this track is for you! It's called "2009", keep up with my socials to hear it when it drops!
