RAE RADICK: ALL ABOUT THE LYRICS

Rae Radick often describes herself as, “The Love Child of Shania Twain + Miranda Lambert + a dash of New York City.” She recently opened for Miranda Lambert and Brett Young at Citadel Country Spirit Music Festival in 2021, and Broadway's Palladium Theater in Times Square. She's a prime example of the new wave of feminism: fierce yet vulnerable, classy yet authentic, free thinking, and finding your path in a technology based world.

Rae Radick has been a singer/songwriter since she was sixteen. Hailing from Bucks County, Pennsylvania she’s lived in New York City for the past eight years and tours internationally. She's been featured on Front Range Radio, Q-Star Radio, and numerous blog articles as “Artist of the Week.” She’s performed at the Hilton Hotel in Atlantic City, Fox and Friends, Shea Stadium, Intrepid Museum, Queen Mary in San Diego, Brooklyn Bowl, The Bitter End, Rockwood Music Hall, Red Lion, and Pete's Candy store to name a few. She also creates original music for feature films. Mixing her Pennsylvania roots with New York City’s spirit, her sound is a supreme balance of pop and country.

Her influences of artists such as Shania Twain, Maren Morris, and Fleetwood Mac are transcendent in her sound. Struggles of relationships, growth, nostalgia, and freedom are continuous themes that appear in her writing.

What is the importance of lyrical value? And how would you say you value lyrics in your music?

For me it’s all about the lyrics. If you gave me a choice between melody or lyrics I’d choose lyrics every time. My lyrics are carefully constructed, and every word & syllable are on purpose. Sometimes I’ll spend weeks looking for the perfect word in a song. I love the power of a good story.

Have you made any transitions in the way you write your music?

I think I’ve discovered how to be more truthful in my writing. I used to write things I thought people wanted to hear, but now I write from personal experience no matter how raw it is. Now that I approach a song that way, I feel it’s better and more unique because it’s coming from a pure place.

Who or what inspired you to write this music?

This song, “Don’t Ya Know It” was inspired by the Rolling Stones. I was listening to a 70’s playlist while making breakfast, and “Beast of Burden” was playing. I started humming this tune that popped into my head, and couldn’t stop humming it all week. I knew if I couldn’t stop humming it then it must be a strong song…and here we are!

Do you think it’s important to change the way you write or the way you think about writing as you grow in your career?

Absolutely. One thing I love about being an artist is you never stop growing and studying. I find new ways to think, write, perform, and storytell everyday. There’s always something you can learn and it’s our job to stay open to it.

Who championed your writing sessions to keep you inspired?

I usually write as a form of therapy– whether out of a need to express myself, or an observation that needs to be told. So it’s more of a natural process. When there’s something to tell or inspiration comes to me I write it down, always in an organic way. Once my producers pick a song that is strong, then I troubleshoot it and hone in on the lyrics/story/themes.

How are you championing yourself as you release the new music?

I’ve been focusing on touring and marketing, which unfortunately put recording new music on the back burner. But I’m happy to report that I have lots of content coming out in 2023! The best way to “champion” yourself is to pay attention to the feeling of fulfillment afterwards, and that feeling of accomplishment on anything you do.
