The 'Pieces' of Emily Daccarett's music and more!

Congratulations on your latest release Pieces!

Thank you so much! I can’t believe I’m finally releasing this song!

What is the story behind creating the title?

I had just come out of a relationship and that’s how my heart felt at that time. It had shattered into pieces, and I felt alone. When I sat down to write, I kept using the word ‘Pieces’ over and over again. Once I finished, I knew what I wanted the title to be. Originally it was Pieces of a Broken Heart, but whenever I referred to it, I would simply say Pieces and over time it felt like that was the true title. It’s not just our hearts that fall to pieces, but also everything around you. At least that’s how it feels at that moment.

How did the lyrics come about?

So, there I was suffering and much to my dismay decided to go on my phone to check my socials when I saw the guy who broke my heart smiling and laughing in his recent post. I felt my blood boil and immediately reached for a pen and paper to let everything out.

Was it a difficult writing process?

I dropped whatever wall I had put up to help me feel stronger and wrote what I felt. It all came out by itself and when I looked back at it, I knew I had my song. It was extremely therapeutic!

What is your style when writing new music? Did it differ from writing Pieces?

I usually approach my songs as if I were writing poetry, but with Pieces it was more of a journal entry of everything I felt. After that I pulled lines and began to paint the picture of how it started and how it ended.

What was the foundation of this single?

The rhythm guitar, bass, and drums are the foundation of the single. I didn’t want a sad break up song because it’s not what it is. This song to me is more of standing up for yourself, calling out the lies we are given, and most importantly not letting that define or bring us down. I usually mask my pain when it comes to love, but I realized that it’s perfectly ok to say, “Hey, you hurt me, I know I’ll move on, but I just need to let you know that you did hurt me”.

How can fans find the single?

You can find it on Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, Deezer, Tidal, and all other streaming platforms.

Could you leave us with your favorite lyrics from Pieces you hope fans repeat over and over?

Did you ever think of me,

Before you set out to play

Wish you told me I was just a part time lover for you

Maybe next time you’ll find someone who likes to play like you’

Where do you connect most with your fans?

I connect with my fans mostly on Instagram! You can check me out there and I’d love to hear what you guys think of Pieces when it comes out!!
