Lyrics:

How can I be upset when you give me those eyes You make me sick I wanna say it but the fact of the matter is I’m scared of it

Is it you Want him too? Is it true I’m out of the picture Can you get a grip I just wanna be lost again I’m always sitting here just waiting on a phone call I got nothing to say Lately it may seem I got nothing to wait for It’s not the same when you’re gone

I always feel attacked you tell me I’m a sad boy You hate my friends (Babe I can’t stand your friends) You might be onto something maybe I’m a lone boy just wanna feel it again It’s just you Kiss him too And it’s true I’m out of the picture As you got a grip Still I wanna be lost again

I’m always sitting here just waiting on a phone call I got nothing to say Lately it may seem I got nothing to wait for It’s not the same when you’re gone

I’m afraid you got another out waiting on your call That’s got something to say Lately it may seem I got nothing to wait for It’s not the same when you’re gone

How I wish I could make you see what I see How I wish I could make you think the way that I think

It’s not the same when you’re gone

What are your favorite lyrics from your latest single?

“I always feel attacked you tell me I’m a sad boy.. you hate my friends (babe I can't stand your friends)” I love singing this verse live it creates a nice moment with the audience to sing along as well as I feel like it describes me well lol.

What kind of pull did you feel about making the single?

I think this song was very inspired by experimenting with a new synth patch I found and figuring out how to layer multiple sounds on top of each other to create a bigger and fun ambience. With the lyrics, I was really feeling like writing a song about the moment before a heartbreak when you know it’s coming but you just sit in the loneliness of a toxic relationship because even though you know it’s wrong you’re scared to let go. But at the end of the day I wanted the music to be happy to portray the idea that it’s a good thing to let go of the past and start over.

Are all your writing sessions collaborative or do you go off on your own? Do you have a preference?

Most of the time I write the songs by myself. Or at least the first idea/demo of it. And then Mike will come in and put some input. We’ll dissect it and try a bunch of different stuff to make it more interesting or cooler/more unique. I don’t really have a preference. At the end of the day I love writing and getting my emotions out. It doesn't matter who’s in the room. As long as the vibe is good :)

Do you ever compare the work you bring to the table?

I try not to compare music just because if I’m doing that I feel as if it makes it a competition. I don’t believe music should be a competition. I believe it should be appreciated in all its forms. People express themselves in different ways and who are we to say which is better or worse?

What is standard practice when it comes to if the song is really finished?

To be honest the song is never really finished lol. There’s always something else we wanted to try or do another take off. But at the end of the day the deadline is what makes us get the song to where we all love it so much and can vibe to it as if our favorite band wrote it. Also when we start noticing the song getting worse the more we change…then we back it up a little bit

What was the goal for making the latest track?

The goal was simply to make something we loved without taking too much inspiration from other tunes or vibes. We wanted to just make something that naturally came out with no influence other than our own. We’re at a point in our creative journey where we want to push ourselves into our own vibe. Like, when you hear The BRKN you know it’s The BRKN without a doubt.

Challenges to the new music that no one would know about?

On these two newest singles “Coffee” and “Not the Same” the biggest challenge was finding time and the space to record them! We’ve been so busy with things going on that it kind of snuck up on us. We ended up recording in some dope places because of it though. Like Mason’s childhood basement here in Colorado and drums in the gym of Flatirons church In Lafayette, Colorado!

Favorite memory in the making of this music?

My favorite memory was staying at the Lafayette campus recording drums in the gym and just having a good time with the boys till about 2:00 am or something like that. It was a blast I’d never really done something like that before. I’d only recorded in studio’s or bedrooms before that lol.

Is there anything off the table when it comes to bringing yourselves into your music?

Nothing is off the table ever for us. We always want to keep our minds open to every possibility and every vibe that might find its way onto the session. That way we aren’t closing ourselves off from the next big thing that might hit!!

Leave us on a high note! And share some good news!

The best news ever is that we are heading to the EU/UK to tour over there for the first time ever and we couldn’t be more stoked!! Look for us if you’re around and come to a show!! Let’s hang :)
