Get to Know Mark Winters!

Hello Mark! Thank you for speaking with me today! Tell us about your latest release/project!

My latest release is a single titled "Signal" released in October of this year. It is part of a new album that will release in Mardh of 2022. This album contains many of my thoughts of about life during and after the pandemic. Signal is my muse and journey to be mindful of the vibes I am putting out to those around me and that I am taking in from them. I want to be purposeful about putting out positive energy when I want it, and aware if someone else is sending me negative vibes. I found others were affecting me more than I knew (and I am sure vica-versa) and being mindful has helped me retain my "positive vibe". What was the creative process for it?

Many of the songs on the album started as Hakiu's. I have a morning ritual to write one if something is on my mind. Signal came together early in 2021 and I was in the studio mid-year with the rest of the album. I started off with just acoustic renditions of the songs on this album before sharing them with my producer (Derek Hames w Edgewater Music). I had a great time jamming in session with Mark Ridell (bass) and Isias Gil (drums) to flesh out the songs into a full production. Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

My grandmother would be at the top of the list, she taught me to write poetry when I was very young (and paint too!). Musically, I love the simplicity of Tom Petty's writing, the guitar vibe and rhythm of John Mayer, and the Positivity of Jason Mraz. Who would be a dream collaboration for you?

It would be a dream to write a song with John Mayer and Jason Mraz together in the process. I am starting to collaborate with some local Houston artists, stay tuned for more on that front. Do you have a mantra or piece of advice you carry with you that you like to pass on to other musicians?

I love the world, and the people in it. Find a way to make a positive contribution to those around you and the world we live in. I think you can adjust your mindset and find the positive in most situations. I would also encourage musicians that are at the top of their craft to reach down and find someone to mentor. I find great joy in many areas of my life giving back to people who are earlier in their journey than I am. Any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for?

In addition to the album and singles above, I will have a new music video launching in April for the title track from the Album "Boundary Layer". I also have some shows lining up along the gulf coast that I will be announcing early next year. Please let everyone know where they can keep up with you and your music!
