ESCAPING REALITY WITH DEAR GENRE

André started playing music at the age of five after a musically inclined Turkish born au pair noticed the natural rhythm he possessed & introduced him to the drums & guitar.

He began sharing his music with the public as a high-school senior under the name Dear Genre with the release of his debut record, “You Put the fear in Atmosphere.”

(Produced by Ross Christopher, 2010.)

Since, six records & a handful of singles have been released, including the most recent single, 'Parliament' (Jan/22).

Seldom defining their exact style, 'St. Louis Music Underground Indie Rock Podcast' describes previous works as “Dreamy shoe-gaze, contrasted at other points with some beautiful, jangly, almost country twee-pop, drone-y electronica with a Middle Eastern feel, & just flat out, bombastic rock, among many others”.

How are you feeling about your work lyrically?

I'm feeling satisfied with my work lately. Since I've started this band, lyrics have been my primary focus. I pride myself on my ability to create them and think outside the box.

Do you feel a push or a pull when it comes to writing right now?

Yes. Currently, I'm feeling a healthy amount of pressure to produce new material. At this point in my career I am happy to have a good support system creatively.

Are all your writing sessions collaborative or do you go off on your own as well. Do you have a preference?

The whole purpose behind Dear Genre was to create an escape from reality. I have always preferred to go off on my own to create, however the addition of talented producers, musicians and management figures has allowed me to reach far beyond what I could have ever created on my own.

Do you ever compare the work you bring to the table? How does that benefit or distract from your common goal of making great music?

Everyone is bringing something different to the table. Dear Genre has always been a collaborative between producers, musicians and management.

What are your favorite lyrics from your new music?

My favorite lyrics from my new release "Parliament" are: "I know how it feels and it feels so right to leave everyone but you behind. Everyone wants you tonight, even though I want you tonight."

Is there anything off the table when it comes to bringing yourselves into your music?

As far as boundaries, I prefer not to discuss freemasonry, the illuminati, or the arctic circle...

Leave us on a high note! And share some good news!

As of the beginning of this month, Dear Genre's Bandcamp is up and running again. You can access my latest single, "Parliament," and the rest of my discography by heading to deargenre.bandcamp.com.
