All Things Music With Virginia Sweet!
Hi Virginia Sweet! Great to speak with you today!
Thank you for having us!
What have you been working on lately?
We have some new songs that we are cooking up right now for you all, and we are also piecing together a Tour for 2022.
Who inspired you to get into music?
Jason Dove: Zakk Wylde, everything about his journey, style, passion. It has driven me in more facets of my life than I would like to admit! Haha
Jason Jump: My mom had all these records she would play by artists like Elvis, Fleetwood Mac, and The Doors. I instantly fell in love with how music made me feel - how I could connect with it. Everything from Motown to Rock and Roll, it just seemed to speak to me.
Ricky Parker: The Drumming of Sir Chris Adler!
When was the first time you recall thinking that you wanted to pursue music as your career?
Jason Dove: I was 13 or 14, and had just nailed my first guitar solo, “Crazy Train”…the rest was history.
Jason Jump: Once I started playing in front of people, I couldn’t get enough of it. I love the connection and energy. It’s so amazing to share that with people.
Ricky Parker: It was either this or working in chiropractics and there's no mandatory schooling involved in music!
What is your favorite song you've ever released and why?
Jason Dove : The Revival, it started off as a ethereal sounding bass line…and developed into something that makes me tear up everytime I hear it. It is sort of a culmination of all 3 of our struggles coming out all at the same time.
Jason Jump: Little Devil. It is a song of our EP, The Revival. It was a song I had written on guitar a while ago and couldn’t really figure out what to do with it. Then the boys (Dove and Ricky) gave it life, and it became the catalyst to us becoming Virginia Sweet.
Ricky Parker: The whole Revival album actually, it's the best performance as a unit that I've been a part of.
Who are some of the artists currently inspiring you?
Jason Dove: Maynard James Keenan, Stone Temple Pilots, and Chris Cornell
Jason Jump: Gov’t Mule, The Black Crowes, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, The Allman Brothers, Jimi Hendrix, Gary Clark Jr, and Rival Sons.
Ricky Parker: David Stanoch, Benny Greb, Sebastian Lanser
Any plans to start performing live as shows pick back up?
Jason Dove: 10,000% we already are!
Jason Jump: Absolutely. We just finished a tour and we are currently working on setting up another one starting in March of 2022.
Ricky Parker: Already have been!
What is your favourite song to perform?
Jason Dove: Movin’ On, it’s a sort of newly developed throwback for us, and its so much fun to play.
Jason Jump: Movin' On!!! It’s a brand new song. I love the energy of it.
Ricky Parker: I don't have a particular song that I like above others. I like to think I write things in every song that push me, so there's always something to make more perfect. I try to not write parts that are automatic/ require little thought to keep in time / execute.
What are you hoping to see in the music world as it continues to evolve?
Jason Dove: More rock festivals, and the old age of Woodstock style festivals happening again. Let's get the new talent on the big stages and stop recycling everything.
Jason Jump: Virginia Sweet selling out Red Rocks!!! Haha.
Ricky Parker: People valuing albums, seeing artists in person, and exploring things they're unfamiliar with. There's a world of music out there the masses don't know about because they're only into what's spoon fed to them.
Please let everyone know how they can keep up with you and your music!
